After losing all three games in the 2024 Maui Invitational, UConn rebounded with a 99-45 blowout of the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday. Two losses came in nail-biters, while one was a decisive defeat. Despite the setbacks, coach Dan Hurley and the Huskies returned to form.
Hurley remained as animated as ever, especially when things didn't go his way. One moment from Saturday's game caught fans' attention. College basketball writer Joe Arruda reported that Hurley "punched himself in the head" after Maryland Eastern Shore grabbed an offensive rebound with 58 seconds left.
"Dan Hurley is punching himself in the head with 58 seconds left in a game while he's up 53 points and my dad has secured a McRib. I cannot stress enough that we have never been more back," a fan said.
"'Dan Hurley must seek professional help before the darkness consumes him,” - some blogger from http://Yahooaolmsn.com,'" a user wrote.
Here are more reactions from fans.
"I would die for that man," one fan said.
"Jealous! Wish it was me, punching him," a user replied.
"He is (has a) very serious trouble of either hurting himself or someone else. He is struggling with something mentally and he needs to take a step back. He is on tilt," another responded.
The Huskies (5-3) will be back in action on Wednesday to take on the Baylor Bears (5-2).
Dan Hurley addresses what UConn needs to work on to reach the top once again
During the postgame press conference on Saturday, Hurley shared what he thinks UConn lacks this year in their pursuit of a third straight championship.
"Our defense has been a disaster," Hurley said. "We're playing nowhere near as hard as we've played in the past. And, our rebounding has been a major problem." (19:16)
Hurley is aware of what his team needs to work on, as they'll have substantial time before the Baylor game to integrate it into their practices.
