Dan Hurley’s UConn crew to serve coffee at East Hartford Dunkin' on Thursday for a good cause

After declining the LA Lakers' offer to return to coaching UConn men's basketball, Dan Hurley has been occupied with summer workout sessions for his Huskies players.

However, on Thursday, UConn men's basketball team members will be at a Dunkin' coffee shop at 364 Silver Lane in East Hartford. They will not be there as customers but as employees. The Huskies players will serve and engage with customers on Iced Coffee Day.

Some will be behind the counter serving coffee to customers, while others will be working at the drive-thru. The student-athletes will also be signing autographs, taking pictures and helping people in the shop.

On Iced Coffee Day, Dunkin' pledged to donate $1 from each iced coffee sold (except Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew) at certain stores to help the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation. This money goes directly to helping Connecticut Children’s and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospitals.

At 7:30 in the morning in East Hartford, four Huskies players, Solo Ball, Hassan Diarra, Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross, will team up with Anthony, an ambassador for Connecticut Children’s, to spread happiness and gratitude among guests as a way of thanking them for their support.

Last year in May, coach Dan Hurley himself participated in the cause, helping people out at the drive-through, dealing with customers and serving coffee.

"Everything that we accomplished has put up in a greater position to make an impact and to do more good, especially in the state of Connecticut, especially for great causes like the children's hospitals in the state. So, excited to do stuff like this all the time," Hurley said.

Seton Hall head coach Shaheen Holloway on Dan Hurley staying at UConn

UConn's Big East rival Seton Hall's coach, Shaheen Holloway, expressed his happiness for Dan Hurley choosing to remain at UConn instead of taking the Lakers' job.

"Danny’s a good man. I'm happy for him, I'm proud of him. What he's doing, it's inspiring," Holloway said in a statement.
"He had to make best decision for himself and his family. It’s good that he’s back in our league. He’s one of the better coaches in the country. For him to get that offer, I thought it was big."

The Pirates finished fourth in the Big East regular season standing last season with a 13-7 record. Holloway's team began its season with a 75-60 win over Dan Hurley's Uconn in the first game of the regular season. However, the Huskies thrashed Seton Hall with a score of 91-61 in the second meeting.
