Dan Hurley and the No. 19-ranked UConn Huskies escaped with an 80-78 win over the Butler Bulldogs on Tuesday. However, the win wasn't the main story as Hurley received criticism for his behavior towards the officials.
The Field of 68 After Dark uploaded a video to YouTube following the game, discussing Hurley's actions. The Huskies coach reacted to a foul that should have been called on Butler's Alex Karaban in the first half and confronted the referee.
"Don’t turn your back on me, I’m the best coach in the f***ing sport," Hurley said.
Basketball analyst Jeff Goodman did not hold back on his criticism regarding Hurley's actions.
"No matter whether you're pissed off at a call or not, no matter whether you think a ref sucks or not, there's a way to to deal with referees," Goodman said. "They're human beings. They miss calls. They're out there. And I think the other thing is, if you're yelling and screaming at these guys and chirping at them the whole time, I've always said this, it's much harder for them to do their jobs.
"If you're yelling and screaming at them while play is going on, yeah, it's going to be harder for them to focus and get calls, right? But just the way he talks to these guys, to me at times, is disgusting. It's disgusting. and it needs to stop."
