Defending back-to-back national champion UConn has started building on its 2025-26 roster by adding seven-foot center Eric Reibe. The German-born slotman, who now resides in Potomac, Maryland, announced the decision on Wednesday in a video chat with 247 Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein.

The left-handed big man chose UConn over Creighton, Kansas, Indiana and Oregon and is the second prospect acquired by the Huskies for the Class of 2025 following four-star combo guard Darius Adams, who confirmed his commitment to the Storrs on Sept. 30.

Reibe, a Bullis School standout, spoke about his decision and cited UConn's special culture and offensive style as the major factors that led to his commitment to the Huskies.

“It was the special culture at UConn and their offensive play style suits me really well. And with my playmaking ability, to be at the top of the key and do handoffs, pick-and-pops, pick-and-rolls, find open cutters – that fits perfectly with their unselfish team play we just saw (in Monday’s exhibition) against Rhode Island,” Reibe said. The center believes the Huskies' college basketball program is the best place to develop his skills and physical and mental well-being. He noted that he chose UConn due to his great relationship with team officials.

Reibe also disclosed the back-to-back championships the Huskies won in 2023 and 2024 were also a big factor in his decision.

Eric Reibe will give UConn rivals nightmares due to his versatile play

UConn has acquired a new big man months after parting ways with seven-foot-two center Donovan Clingan. The Huskies, per Finkelstein's scouting report, seemed to have hit the jackpot in Reibe, as they secured the commitment of a modern big man who can space the floor with his long-range shots and playmaking skills.

Finkelstein added that Reibe has an excellent basketball IQ, as he can recognize offensive actions. He is also very difficult to double team due to his passing ability. Reibe is set to fill the slot that Samson Johnson would leave this spring. UConn plans to pair Reibe with Michigan transfer Tarris Reed to form a lengthy but versatile frontline next season.

The big man also indicated his desire to win every title available and get himself immersed in the school's culture. He expressed excitement in getting onto the campus in Storrs and playing in front of the best fans in the nation.
