Dawn Staley's salary: How much does South Carolina coach earn after $25.25 million contract extension

Dawn Staley is known for her legacy as one of the greatest coaches in women's basketball history. Now, she will stand as the highest paid coach in the sport's history following a new contract extension with the South Carolina Gamecocks that will last for six more years.

The Bleacher Report women's hoops page made a post on Instagram on Friday, providing the details of the extension for how much Staley will earn per year. Salary increases and bonuses were also included in the deal, which will expire after the conclusion of the 2029-30 season.

"Dawn Staley’s new contract extension with South Carolina valued at $25.25M includes $250K increase every season + $500K signing bonus. This makes Dawn the highest paid women’s college basketball coach in history," the caption read.

What's next for Dawn Staley and South Carolina after the extension?

Dawn Staley has been brilliant throughout her coaching stint with the South Carolina Gamecocks and is highly deserving of the contract extension as she surpassed LSU coach Kim Mulkey's 10-year, $32 million contract extension signed in 2023.

"Dawn Staley is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina. She has elevated the sport of women’s basketball on the national level and here on campus and I am excited that she will be representing our University for many years to come," Gamecocks athletic director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement.

Becoming the program's coach in 2008, Staley led them to three national championships and reached the Final Four six times. She currently boasts a record of 457-107, earning multiple Coach of the Year awards from several outlets.

No. 2 South Carolina currently has a 17-1 record this season, dominating with an active win streak of 12 games. They put up 81.7 points on 47.2% shooting (34.3% from the 3-point line), blowing out opponents by a convincing margin of 26.9 points per contest.

They have three players scoring in double-digits. Joyce Edwards leads the way with 11.8 points, Te-Hina Paopao follows with 11.1 points, while MiLaysia Fulwiley provides 11.0 points.

Staley and the Gamecocks prepare for their matchup against the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners at the Colonial Life Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
