The South Carolina Gamecocks made an appearance at the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday. A few hours before the event, the Gamecock X account posted a video where the players were asked who would wear the best fit for the red carpet.

Raven Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley, along with many other players, named themselves as the candidates for the title. Chaos then ensued as the players discussed their dress colors before finally admitting that everyone was going to show out.

Here is the video:

True to their word, all the players showed out in their best outfits, completely taking over the red carpet.

After a historic undefeated season, which culminated in South Carolina's third national championship, the Gamecocks are preparing for another incredible run. They are predicted to repeat last season's victory but will face heavy competition from USC Trojans and UConn Huskies.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley to receive a special honor at ESPYs

The evening is a special one for the Gamecocks as their coach, Dawn Staley, is set to receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. The award is in recognition of Staley's efforts in raising awareness about cancer.

She lost her friend Nikki McCray-Penson, Rutgers' assistant coach in 2023 after a long battle with breast cancer. In October, Staley worked with Rutgers to organize an exhibition game in honor of Penson. The proceeds from the day went in support of women battling breast cancer in South Carolina.

Closer to home, Dawn Staley's sister was diagnosed with leukemia in 2020. She worked to gather more people to sign up on the bone marrow registry, Be The Match.

Talking about receiving the award to The V Foundation, Dawn Staley said:

"I know what Jimmy V represented. I know the strength that he utilized to his last breath and bringing awareness to cancer research. So for us, anytime that we can lend our voices to actual people, who we love that are no longer here with us to raise money. We have to find the cure."

Former NC State coach and ESPN broadcaster Jimmy Valvano set up The V Foundation for Cancer Research in 1993. Valvano was battling cancer at the time. During the 1993 ESPY Awards, Jimmy Valvano delivered the legendary ‘Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!’ speech which continues to inspire many cancer survivors.
