Dawn Staley is making waves on X (formerly Twitter) with vibrant updates from the ongoing Paris Olympics. The South Carolina women’s basketball coach, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, is part of the U.S. delegation at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She attended the opening ceremony on Friday, and on Saturday, Staley shared her Day 2 adventures, expressing her excitement and joy.
“Day 2,” Staley wrote. “Phillamonie. Olympic Torch at French house. Team USA house. This was yesterday for those of you that’s following this here journey of mine. I’ll upload some of Day 3 later today. Bon jour!”
Staley continued to share her Olympic experience with a Day 3 post, highlighting her visits to men’s gymnastics, women’s fencing, and women’s water polo events.
“Day 3,” she wrote. “@USAGym (M) @USAFencing (W) @USAWP (women’s team is the truth…goalie has go go gadget arms) and the pool is a lot smaller than it appears on tv.”
Earlier, Staley recapped her Day 1 journey, describing it as an “amazing experience” and sharing photos.
“Day 1 was truly an amazing experience,” she wrote. “Candy? Coins? Seals? PJ? Anyone? Only it is PRESIDENTIAL for me.”
Notably, NBA legend LeBron James has made history as the first U.S. men’s basketball player to serve as a flag bearer, a role Staley proudly held in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Earlier this week, Dawn Staley had the chance to meet former President Barack Obama, describing him as "the coolest man on earth" on social media. In a playful message, Staley asked Obama to "borrow" his wife, Michelle, for "four short years," adding, "First Gentleman is a good look for you!"
"@BarackObama thank you for your inspiration and leadership still,” Staley wrote. “Now please let us borrow @MichelleObama for just 4 short years! First Gentleman is a good look for you!"
Staley was honored at the 2024 ESPYS, receiving the Jimmy V Award for "Perseverance for her advocacy in women's sports and her leadership in the fight against cancer."
Additionally, her team, the Gamecocks, was celebrated as the best team, highlighting their status as defending champions.
