On April 16, Koby Brea announced his decision to enter the transfer portal after four seasons with the Dayton Flyers. Since then, Brea has received offers from five blue-blood schools: Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, UConn, and Kentucky.

At the time of publishing, Koby Brea has yet to make any announcements regarding his next landing spot. The fifth-year senior started four games and averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 51.2% from the field.

Brea is specifically known for making long-distance shots and made 100 of 201 shots from the 3-point line. He is ranked No. 13 in the transfer portal and is sought after for his offensive skills. However, according to The Athletic's C.J. Moore, this makes him an easy target for opponents.

"If he transfers to a higher level, he could be a guy teams hunt on the defensive end, Moore said. "He isn’t a great on-ball defender. He has good positional size but has a tendency to give up blow-by straight-line drives. Still, his shooting is valuable enough that just about anyone will take him because he changes the geometry of the floor.”

Koby Brea is reported to have met with all five finalists via Zoom call and will be making a school visit, specifically to Kentucky, later this week.

Many experts feel like the guard is the best fit in Kentucky because of the new coach, Mark Pope. During his previous tenure with the BYU Cougars, Pope made his team one of the biggest offensive threats and was No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference (118.1).

Koby Brea spoke about his plans before transferring from Dayton

While he did not explicitly address his decision to leave, Koby Brea did indicate that he was just not done with his college career yet.

He will graduate this spring, majoring in education & allied studies. However, he did not participate in the Senior Night ceremony before Dayton’s final regular-season game in March.

When asked about his decision for the 2024–25 season, Brea said:

“I think there’s a high possibility of me coming back here, to college, and doing one more year. I think it’d be beneficial for me.” (via Dayton Daily News)

In his statement on social media announcing the transfer, Brea shared:

"It’s a choice born of deep reflection and prayer, filled with uncertainty but also excitement for the journey ahead. But no matter where life takes me, my bond with Dayton, with Flyer Nation, will remain unbreakable. I’m a Flyer forever!”
