Football legend Deion Sanders showed up courtside at the Event Center on Saturday to support his daughter, Shelomi Sanders, and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in their game against the Alabama State Lady Hornets.
The Colorado Buffaloes coach proved to be a lucky charm as Alabama A&M pulled off a 54-47 win over Alabama State. Two players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, who have won four of their last five games. With the victory, they improved their overall record to 11-6.
Alabama A&M recorded its second straight win despite a scoreless outing from Shelomi Sanders. She missed all three of her field-goal attempts against the Lady Hornets. She also finished the game without a rebound and a block. She did record one assist and one steal in seven minutes of action.
"Coach Prime" finally had some time to watch his youngest child in action with Colorado's NCAA football season already over. The Buffaloes finished their season with a 9-4 record, concluding their campaign with a 36-14 loss to the BYU Cougars in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28.
Colorado failed to recover from a disastrous first half, with BYU building a commanding 20-0 advantage at the break. Shedeur Sanders struggled in the Buffs' final game of the season, completing 16 of 23 passes for 208 yards with two touchdowns and a couple of interceptions. Travis Hunter, who won the 2024 Heisman Trophy, caught four passes for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Lauryn Pendleton picks up scoring slack amid Shelomi Sanders' offensive struggles
This was the ninth time this season that Shelomi Sanders failed to score for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. She also fired blanks in the games against Jackson State, Central Arkansas, Tulane, North Alabama, Utah Valley, UAB, Eastern Michigan and Alabama.
Sanders' offensive woes didn't affect the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-1 in SWAC play. Lauryn Pendleton led Alabama A&M in scoring with 17 points. She shot 6-for-11 from the field and 5-for-7 at the charity stripe. She also had four rebounds, two steals and one assist in 36 minutes.
Kalia Walker provided some much-needed offense off the bench, dropping 13 points. She shot 3-for-8 from the floor, including 1-for-2 from beyond the arc. She was automatic from the free-throw line, knocking down all six of her attempts at the charity stripe. Mailyn Wilkerson and Alisha Wilson also contributed for the Bulldogs, scoring nine and five points, respectively.
