Dior Johnson and Mikey Williams will team up on the UCF Knights as the program looks to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018-19. Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported the news of Johnson's commitment on Monday, tweeting:

"NEWS: JUCO standout Dior Johnson, a once highly-touted recruit, has committed to UCF, he tells @On3sports . The 6-2 guard averaged nearly 30 PPG this season for Clarendon Community College."

He followed with a tweet about their high school recruiting rankings:

"Dior will be teaming up with Mikey Williams at UCF. Both players are former 5⭐️s."

While both Johnson and Williams are talented, they have both also had off-the-court issues derail the beginning of their collegiate careers.

Fans reacted to the news by hesitating against the idea of pairing the two.

"Disaster waiting to happen," @johnydang78 tweeted.
"Hopefully they can both stay out of trouble," @nomptonsooner posted.
"They haven’t liked each other for awhile. Locker room will be entertaining," @HitmenHoops claimed.

@BasketballAAL speculated that the duo will dominate UCF's offensive touches:

"75% of the shots will be taken by these two"

@heyitsjulianfr joked about the program:

"last chance u."

@BrendanCrJuju noted that the Knights will roster another former five-star prospect with off-the-court issues:

"Benny Williams who transferred Cuse was also a 5-star. I would be surprised if any of those 3 finish the year on the roster."

Can Dior Johnson and Mikey Williams lead the UCF Knights to the NCAA Tournament?

Dior Johnson and Mikey Williams have both been essentially written off as NBA prospects. The duo will have the opportunity to rebuild their draft stock in 2024-25 on the UCF Knights. While the Knights have not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2018-19, Johnny Dawkins has done a solid job of bringing in talent this offseason.

UCF was strong defensively a season ago as they ranked 66th out of 362 teams in opponents' scoring and 32nd in defensive rating. They struggled mightily on the offensive end, however, ranking just 236th in scoring and 249th in offensive rating.

Johnson and Williams should provide a boost to the Knights' offense. Their odds of reaching the NCAA Tournament – after finishing 17-16 in 2023-24 – will likely come down to whether or not the team is able to develop chemistry with one another early on.
