Dan Hurley returned to the Yankee Stadium on Saturday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch as the Yankees took on the Red Sox. While he connected the ball with the ball boy behind the plate, it went 15 feet high in the air before landing on the mitt.

Later, it was explained that Hurley was dealing with shoulder soreness and an inflamed elbow. Post-game, the coach reacted to his throw, tweeting:

"Thanks 27-Time World Series @Yankees!! You are First Class! Disappointing pitch…D/D-"

Dan Hurley threw the ceremonial first pitch in June 2023 after the UConn Huskies had won their first NCAA championship. The Yankees have been struggling with continuous losses, and Hurley had some advice for the team.

"I know they're in a tough stretch," he said. "We went through a really tough stretch the January of the first year we won it. Getting through those tough stretches, coming together as a team, getting back to your identity as an organization and staying together gives you a chance to really form a strong team when you go through the struggles."
"They've had a tough last 20 games, but in the end, it's about the culture of the team," Hurley added. "Turn off the external noise. Obviously, it's incredibly hard to do in New York. But, to win championships, you've got to go through some hard (stuff). And they're going through it right now."

Dan Hurley believes he's better suited for football coaching than basketball

Dan Hurley, who turned down the opportunity to coach the LA Lakers, is on his way to achieving a unique feat in men's college basketball. After back-to-back championships, the UConn Huskies are favorites to win a third next year.

The championship wins are credited to Dan Hurley's tough coaching style, which brings the best out of his players. However, the Naismith Coach of the Year feels like his style is better for football.

"The leadership piece and the psychology, the motivation, the relationship building," Hurley said. \
"Just all that stuff, like leading men through the ups and downs of the season. I think I would be a better football coach than basketball actually. Just my intensity, I think it's more, it fits football guys," he added.

The third championship won't come easy, as Kansas and Alabama have stacked their teams with talented players. Hurley added Aidan Mahany and Tarris Reed Jr. from the transfer portal along with the top high school recruit, Liam McNeely.
