“Do the darn thing” - 3x national champ Dawn Staley left impressed by majestic musical performance during brunch

Dawn Staley showed love to a South Carolina-based jazz bistro as she shared a video enjoying brunch with live music. The Hall of Fame coach is making the best of her off-season supporting her former players and now local restaurants.

"Only at the one and only @ChayzLounge! Not one trumpet but a trumpet and a French-horn at the same time! Come on now and do the darn thing!! And brunch was outstanding….chef did that!!!," Staley wrote on X.

Dawn Staley has received much love and appreciation after winning her third national championship with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Philadelphia's mayor Cherelle L. Parker gave the city's famous native the first “One Philly Award” on Thursday.

“The idea is to give this award once a year on the Fourth of July to a Philadelphian who best demonstrates the qualities we seek in the Parker administration: civic-mindedness, trailblazing leadership, and a focus on serving the community,” she said and added that Staley was the "personification of Philly grit and resilience and Philly pride.”

Dawn Staly will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2024 ESPYS on July 11. It is in recognition of her efforts to elevate women's sports and for her fight against cancer.

Dawn Staley remembers Nikki McCray on her death anniversary

After a long battle with breast cancer, former Rutgers assistant coach and Dawn Staley's friend, Nikki McCray died in July 2023. On Friday, Staley tweeted on X remembering her friend:

"On this day a year ago, our basketball community lost a great soul @NikkiMccray15 not a day goes by I don’t think of you. It makes me knowing you’re not here to share in life’s most precious thing….TIME. I love you deeply Nik Nik! Say hi to the big fella and my mom! We got U!"

In honor of her memory, Rutgers and South Carolina played a pre-season exhibition game in October 2023. The proceeds from the game were donated to 'In the Middle,' a non-profit that provides financial assistance to women battling breast cancer. Staley also set up a scholarship fund for McCray's 10-year-old son, Thomas.

Dawn Staley's sister, Tracey Underwood was also diagnosed with leukemia in 2020 but she has since been on her journey to recovery.
