Kim Mulkey explains her hoops-inspired outfit at LSU vs Auburn game
Kim Mulkey turned heads with her outfit during LSU's game against Auburn on Sunday. The Tigers coach was a walking bucket in a black sweater with a backboard over a pair of red trousers. She also wore a red belt made to look like a basketball rim. To complete her look, Mulkey donned a basketball net around her waist.
This is not the 62-year-old's first time in an outlandish outfit on the sidelines. However, Sunday's ensemble generated enough buzz that the legendary coach decided to give an explanation following LSU's 73-63 victory over Auburn.
Mulkey revealed that the outfit was left at her doorstep by the fashion brand Queen of Sparkles several days prior to the game.
“Y'all know the story. I don't shop. That was dropped off at the house maybe Friday and I wasn't even there,” Mulkey said. “They put two up and I said, ‘Oh let's do that one today.’”
Mulkey also revealed that she wore the outfit for the team to sell tickets for the game.
“I'm 62 years old and I'm a team player,” she said. “That's how I got talked into this sparkle stuff and I said I'll do it for the team. It'll sell tickets to those fashionistas that know nothing about basketball."
"Yes, do it coach and I did it and it's worked but some of that stuff, no way. No, I won't even describe some of it because some people wear that but not this old country girl from Tickfaw,” Mulkey added.
The LSU has an NIL deal with Queen of Sparkles and has joked that she deserves to be compensated for routinely wearing the brand’s items. She also said that she found Sunday's outfit creative.
