Former Iowa guard Kate Martin went down memory lane by recalling some of her moments playing for the Hawkeyes during an appearance on Fresh Tawk. Hosted by Jada Gyamfi, the episode featured the two former teammates swapping stories about their lives at present also.

One of Martin's favorite memories involves former Iowa power forward Monika Czinano. The Iowa Hawkeyes were facing Minnesota and were trailing by 13 points when Czinano took a big fall.

"We were playing Minnesota and we're losing," Martin said (Timestamp- 37:54). "We're playing terrible, we're sprinting back on defense like we're just tense. ... Logan (Cook) is running past Monika (Czinano), nicks her shoe, hits just like, just ever so slightly, and Monica's heel, her foot just hits the back of her calf.
"She started falling at half court, did not actually fall and hit the ground until the three-point line about 15-20 feet (away). She fell in such a way where she ended up on her back, with her all fours in the air. I don't know how she did it but I'm like pissed and I'm also trying not to laugh. They're trying to help her up, I'm like, 'Dude, get up. We're losing'. And it's my favorite video of all time."

Monika Czinano and Kate Martin shared the court for four years and led Iowa on some historic NCAA Tournament runs. The forward declared for the 2023 WNBA Draft and was picked by the Los Angeles Sparks. However, she never played in the league and is currently playing in Budapest.

The incredible friendship between Kate Martin and Monika Czinano

Earlier in the podcast, Jada Gyamfi talked about how she missed her three seniors: Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and Caitlin Clark. Martin could relate to her since at one point, she was ready to give up college with her friend Monika Czinano's departure.

"I was like if Monika's not going to be around, I'm not going to be around," Martin said. " I literally was like, 'I don't think I can do college basketball without Monika'."
"(But) it's so funny because I would not be where I am right now if I wouldn't have done another year around. Isn't that weird how life works out."

In her fifth season with the Hawkeyes, Kate Martin averaged 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists. This was her best stat line in her college career and played a huge role in her getting picked by the Las Vegas Aces.
