Duke star Jared McCain expresses gratitude for his supportive family: “Whether it's painting my nails or doing TikTok dances”

Jared McCain, the Duke Blue Devils star player who is waiting to get picked in this year's NBA draft, is represented by Excel Basketball, a management and marketing agency for up-and-coming basketball players.

McCain was featured in one of the videos from the agency. In the video, he talked about how basketball became his passion and how his family supported him throughout his journey.

"I feel like it's giving me the confidence to always be myself. I credit my parents, my family for just kind of supporting whatever decision I make. Whether it's painting my nails or doing TikTok dances, they just give me the confidence."

"Whenever I step on the court, I feel like I trust my work and I know that I'm gonna go out there and perform."

McCain has embraced his unique personality, as he is often seen sporting colorful nails during games. He once revealed why he applies nail polish to his nails.

"There's really no crazy reason to it. It helps me not bite my nails. I went into a salon one time, and I decided to pick out a color, and I thought it looked nice. I know a lot of people disagree; a lot of people don't like it, but I'm just going to be myself and do what I think looks nice."

"One of the reasons I kept painting my nails is I had a game after I painted my nails, and I ended up playing really well. I'm not crazy superstitious, but I thought it looked nice, I thought it helped me play better."

It seems like the Duke star has one more thing to be thankful for his family. McCain received a green room invite to attend the 2024 NBA draft with his family members. The 20-year-old is one of the standout players who entered this year's draft. The Blue Devils player played in 36 games and averaged 14.3 points and five rebounds per game.

In an interview with On3 Sports' Pete Nakos, Jared McCain talked about how he deals with criticism on social media.

“It’s tough sometimes, especially when you lose games,” he said, as per On3 Sport. “Everybody wants to critique everything. But coach made it very clear at the beginning of the season, that’s going to happen.”

“You just got to stick together, stick to the ones that really are supporting you throughout the whole journey. Because there are so many people that are going to say so many crazy things online, you just have to block it out.”

Jared McCain is expected to get picked as one of the top fifteen players in the 2024 NBA draft. As per Sports Illustrated, the Miami Heat can look into picking the combo guard as he can bring impressive shooting power to the team.
