Freshman Dylan Harper achieved a historic milestone, recording Rutgers' first triple-double since 1983, as the Scarlet Knights secured a 91-64 victory over Columbia on Monday night.

Harper posted 16 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds while shooting 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also contributed three steals and a block.

Rutgers rebounded decisively from an 83-82 loss to Princeton, never trailing in the game and pulling away in the second half. Harper's 10th rebound came with 5:05 left in the game, and he quickly assisted Ace Bailey for a layup to complete the triple-double. This marked Rutgers' first triple-double since Roy Hinson’s 24-point, 10-rebound, and 10-block performance against Rhode Island on March 2, 1983.

In the first half, Dylan Harper attempted only four shots but collected seven rebounds and six assists. He came alive after halftime, scoring 13 points. During a pivotal stretch, Rutgers went on a 10-2 run midway through the second half, extending their lead to 64-48. Harper’s fourth 3-pointer of the game capped the run, forcing Columbia to call a timeout.

Through 13 games this season, Harper has been a standout, averaging 22.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 52.5% from the field and 37.3% from 3-point range. Despite early challenges, Harper has consistently emerged as Rutgers' top performer.

With non-conference play concluded Rutgers will return to Big Ten action on Thursday against Indiana at Assembly Hall. The game will be broadcast on Peacock.

Harper and Scarlet Knights return to win column

Regardless of the manner, Rutgers secured a much-needed victory on Monday night — it was essential to get back on track.

The Scarlet Knights delivered a wire-to-wire win, starting the game in scorching form. They outshot Columbia significantly, taking 41 shots and 19 3-pointers compared to Columbia's 28 attempts. A key factor in the win was the turnover margin, with Rutgers forcing eight turnovers while committing only one.

Rutgers made five of its first six shots, with Jeremiah Williams turning the lone miss into a putback jumper, establishing an early lead. While Columbia fought to stay within reach, Rutgers maintained control.

The Scarlet Knights set the pace offensively, scoring 44 first-half points and attempting 19 3-pointers, sinking five. They closed the game with a dominant 25-9 run in the final 10 minutes, putting past struggles with late-game execution behind them.

Rutgers also regained control on the boards, outrebounding Columbia 45-31, including a 14-3 edge on offensive rebounds. It was a critical bounce-back performance, highlighting improved defense and rebounding — foundational aspects of Steve Pikiell's program.

After a nine-day break following a heartbreaking loss to Princeton, Rutgers quickly found their rhythm, led by their two stars, and reestablished their offensive groove.

With Big Ten play on the horizon, the Scarlet Knights face a defining stretch. What is clear, however, is that Harper thrives under pressure and is ready to lead his team wherever they aim to go.
