UConn star Paige Bueckers was just six points shy of reaching the 2,000-career point mark coming into Sunday's game against Seton Hall. After scoring 18 points against the Pirates, Bueckers crossed that historic threshold as the Huskies won 96-36 in Gampel Pavilion.

The senior guard had to wait until the second quarter to pick up her 2,000th career point, becoming the only 12th player in program history to reach the feat, as the crowd erupted in joy.

"I was hoping I would get it at some point. I knew I was six points away, so eventually, hopefully I would get there," Bueckers said postgame (5:32).
"I didn't want to press. I didn't want to force the issue and just let it happen naturally within the game flow and continue to play the right way, look for my teammates, look for my shot, play UConn basketball, and what's supposed to happen will happen."

A few minutes later, the home crowd cheered even louder when senior Aubrey Griffin checked into the game for the first time in over a year after recovering from an ACL tear she suffered last January.

A reporter in the postgame presser asked Paige Bueckers whether she tried to get Griffin involved on the floor right away.

"Yeah, definitely," Bueckers replied (1:15). "A couple of us on the team know what it's like to play in your first game back from a major injury and the nerves and the anxiousness and the anxiety about it.
"So just to be able to feed her, get her comfortable, get her going, and have her know that all of us believe in her, and we are extremely excited to have her back, was definitely the goal. And yeah, I'm just extremely happy for Aubrey."

Griffin scored 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in her return. Meanwhile, Paige Bueckers along with Azzi Fudd finished with 18 points apiece. Freshman forward Sarah Strong tallied a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies.

"I think it was a full team effort today, I think that's huge in terms of continuing to build the chemistry, continuing to build what we look like as a unit," the 6-foot guard added (3:04).

Paige Bueckers breaks UConn record for fastest to 2,000 career points

While Paige Bueckers still has a long way to go to match the career totals of UConn legends like Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore, she became the fastest player in program history to join the 2,000-point club, reaching the milestone in just 102 games — six games faster than Moore's previous record.

After the Seton Hall game, her career point total sits at 2,012. However, Bueckers is still 129 points away from cracking the Huskies' all-time top-10 scoring list. Kara Wolters holds the tenth spot with 2,141 points.
