There were some notable personalities at the USC Trojans-Michigan basketball game on Saturday. Famous alums of the two schools, including USC's former Heisman winner Matt Leinhart, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka, and USC football legend Matt Barkley were all in attendance as the Trojans fell to the Michigan Wolverines 85-74.
The USC X feed was filled with sightings of the figures as they posed with fans and each other. Check out the posts below.
Leinart won the Heisman in 2004. He also led the Trojans to the Rose Bowl, but they fell short of the national championship as they lost to Texas, 41-38. Meanwhile, Matt Barkley was a four-year starter for USC at quarterback from 2009 to 2012. He threw for 12,327 yards and 116 touchdowns, which are both program records.
Rob Pelinka played four years with the Michigan Wolverines basketball team from 1988-1993. He played point guard and was part of the 1989 national championship-winning team.
Assistant GM of the Atlanta Hawks and former NBA sharpshooter Kyle Korver also pulled up the Galen Center.
USC Trojans fall at home to start 2025
The USC Trojans returned to the Galen Center for their first game in 2025 as they took on Michigan in Big Ten play. After a close battle between these two teams, the Trojans fell short as they suffered an 85-74 defeat.
Michigan started strong with a 6-0 run but USC quickly answered with their own six points to tie the game. The first half was closely contested, with the lead changing hands 10 times. Michigan pulled ahead with another 6-0 run just before halftime, leaving USC down 42-38.
In the second half, Michigan built a 15-point lead, but USC fought back with a 13-2 run to even the score with 10 minutes remaining. Both teams struggled to score for several minutes until Kevin Patton Jr. gave USC a brief lead with a layup.
Michigan quickly responded, using a scoring drought from USC to secure an eight-point lead. Despite a late effort from USC, Michigan held on for an 85-74 victory, handing USC its first loss of 2025.
USC coach Eric Musselman had some positive thoughts about his team after the game, despite not getting the W.
"I thought our small-ball lineup did a good job of getting us back in the game. We did a great job of defending in the paint in the first half. We led the game in rebounding during most of the game even with them having two 7-footers.
"But we are 0-2 at home. This is a league that dominates at home. We have an uphill battle in this league," Musselman said per USC's official website.
Next up, USC will head out to the Midwest for their first road trip of 2025 to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Wednesday.
