Caitlin Clark rose to prominence during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, leading them to a pair of trips to the national championship game. Although they fell short in their bid to win the NCAA title twice, Clark will forever be remembered for her outstanding exploits during her college basketball career.
ESPN took a trip down memory lane on Wednesday, breaking down Clark's top five moments at Iowa following the school's announcement that it will retire her jersey this February.
Among the highlight plays that made the list were Clark's game-winning buzzer-beater against No. 2 Indiana (Feb. 26, 2023) and her game-winner at the buzzer versus Michigan State (Jan. 2, 2024). ESPN also included Clark's 41-point explosion against undefeated South Carolina in the 2023 Final Four.
The sports network placed Clark's career milestones in the top two. She broke the all-time women's NCAA scoring record in the win over Michigan (Feb. 15, 2024) and grabbed the NCAA scoring record outright during Iowa's game against Ohio State (Mar. 3, 2024).
College hoops fans took to X/Twitter to react to Clark's top five moments with the Hawkeyes:
"Face of the league for a reason. Can't wait for 2nd Feb to see motion in Iowa," one fan wrote.
"That step back 3 GW against Michigan State is iconic," another fan said.
"They should have had top 22 but that's just me. Five highlights of Caitlin are never enough even if they are great," one fan posted.
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
"Well done!" one fan said.
"It's always funny seeing somebody’s top 5 biggest moments & none of the moments are them winning a ring," one fan added.
Caitlin Clark takes WNBA by storm in rookie season with Indiana Fever
Caitlin Clark's Iowa jersey retirement comes after she took the WNBA by storm in her rookie season. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft led the Indiana Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 despite starting the campaign with a 1-8 record.
The Fever overcame that poor start thanks to Clark, who captured the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals through 40 games in the regular season for Indiana. The Fever's playoff run was short-lived, though, as they lost to the Connecticut Sun 2-0 in the first round.
