Flau'jae Johnson has been one of the best players in LSU's women's basketball program in recent years. Under coach Kim Mulkey, the junior guard has evolved into one of the best guards in all of women's college basketball, enjoying immense success with the Tigers.
Johnson's stellar performances for LSU in the ongoing college basketball season have caught the eye of Chris Brickley, a former NBA skills coach. Brickley recently worked with the likes of Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan, and LeBron James' eldest son, Bronny, who is now his father's teammate at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Earlier today, Brickley shared a clip of Johnson going through some drills in which she effortlessly made shots from 3-point range. She also worked on improving her handle before practicing shots on the move and a few contested shots, which prompted Brickley to praise her impressive start to her junior year through his caption for the post.
"@flaujae is off to a great start 20.9 ppg, 6 rpg on shooting 52% from the field and 42% from 3pt. LSU is 14-0. Keep it going!" Brickley wrote.
Flau'jae Johnson among stat leaders for LSU this season
In her freshman season, Flau'jae Johnson averaged 11.0 points and 5.9 rebounds, starting each game in LSU's run to its first-ever national championship in program history. She was named the 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Although the Tigers failed to defend the national championship, she improved her numbers in her sophomore season, averaging 14.9 ppg and 5.5 rpg to lead LSU to the Elite Eight.
This season, Johnson has arguably enjoyed her best start to a season in her college basketball career. Amongst her teammates, she ranks top for scoring average (20.9) and assists (43), ranks second for steals (22) and blocks (15) and ranks third for rebounding average (6.0).
Despite the loss of Angel Reese, whom the Chicago Sky made the No. 7 overall pick in this year's WNBA draft, the Tigers have made a strong start to the 2024-25 season. They have won all 14 of their games, although they have only faced one ranked opponent in NC State so far.
The Tigers will be keen to extend their perfect streak when they face Albany next at Baton Rouge on Dec. 29 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
