Geno Auriemma showed he is still a walking bucket at the age of 70, pulling off an incredible shot during practice before the UConn Huskies' game against the St. John's Red Storm. The Huskies' account on X posted the UConn coach's trick shot on Wednesday, with the clip immediately going viral.
Auriemma stood near the logo at midcourt when he shot the ball underhanded with his right hand. People in the practice venue gasped when he buried the high-arcing shot, with his attempt hitting nothing but net. Associate head coach Chris Dailey watched the shot go in, with Auriemma acting nonchalantly after making the basket.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to Auriemma's terrific shot.
"I’ve seen enough. Go ahead and add him to the starting line up!" one fan wrote.
"This finna be in the Geno edits," one fan tweeted.
"Full ride scholarship?" one fan joked.
Here are some other reactions.
"Put old man in the starting lineup," one fan chimed in.
"Casually showing why he can keep talking his sh**," one fan replied.
"Nothing but net, Coach," one fan shared.
"My coach is better than yours," one fan claimed.
"Gramps still got it I guess," one fan posted.
The trick shot wasn't the only great thing that happened to Geno Auriemma during his trip to Queens. He led the No. 6 UConn Huskies to their sixth straight win, recording a 71-45 victory over St. John's at Carnesecca Arena.
Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers deliver for Geno Auriemma in win over St. John's
Geno Auriemma welcomed back Paige Bueckers to the starting lineup after the UConn star missed the past two games because of a knee injury. She sprained her left knee during the third quarter against Villanova, forcing her to be sidelined against Xavier and Georgetown.
Bueckers was one of three players who scored in double figures for the Huskies, who improved their record to 16-2. She amassed 12 points after going 4-of-7 from the field and making all four of her attempts at the charity stripe. Bueckers has now scored in double digits in each of the last eight games she has played for UConn.
Azzi Fudd and Ashlynn Shade also contributed, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively. Fudd led UConn in scoring for the third consecutive game, averaging 19.0 points during that span. She has been on a tear, shooting a combined 23-for-38 from the field in her last three outings.
