Eyeing an NCAA championship next year, LSU star Flau'jae Johnson and her teammates stepped onto the court for practice drills. Hundreds of fans came to watch as LSU players beamed with enthusiasm inside Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
In the video shared on social media, players performed dribbling and shooting drills while LSU coach Kim Mulkey monitored them closely. The two-plus-hour practice session was held on Monday.
Sa'Myah Smith, who suffered an ACL tear last season, has recovered and participated in the practice drills on Monday. Mjracle Sheppard and Arkansas transfer Jersey Wolfenbarger too were part of the drills.
Aalyah Del Rosario didn't participate in the practice session due to ankle surgery. Izzy Besselman, too, was out due to a heart issue.
The Tigers lost to Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight contest last season. For the upcoming season, Kim Muleky welcomed five newcomers. Fans have high hopes from Flau'jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams.
Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith are no longer with the LSU team. The former went to the Chicago Sky and the latter transferred to the TCU Horned Frogs.
All eyes on Flau'jae Johnson after Angel Reese departed from LSU
Flau'jae Johnson is the new face of the Tigers. In two seasons with the Tigers, she averaged 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Kim Mulkey isn't worried about the departure of Angel Reese and shared optimism about the future possibilities, per Shreveport Times.
"I don't think there was pressure, even when Angel was here," Mulkey said. "Each kid just has a different personality. I've told you many times, I've coached some big personalities. Somebody in this bunch will probably have a big personality. It might not be in comparison to Angel.
"But personalities just kind of rise to the top when they get comfortable. It comes with confidence, it comes with being older."
While Flau'jae Jonson is central to the hopes of Tigers fans, she will get good support from the stars like Mikaylah Williams and Aneesah Morrow.
Williams averaged 14.5 points and 4.9 rebounds last season. Morrow too had a decent first season, as she averaged 16.4 points.
