It was a surprising sight to see LSU coach Kim Mulkey make a cameo appearance in Flau'jae Johnson's song 'Came Out A Beast' alongside rap superstar Lil Wayne. However, Mulkey doesn't share screen time with Wayne in the music video.
The video released in August shows the Tigers coach in the opening scene where she was giving instructions to her players.
In an interview with Khristina Williams on the In Case You Missed It podcast on Thursday, LSU phenom Flau'jae Johnson discussed her relationship with the coach Mulkey and how she convinced her to be part of the music video.
"Coach Mulkey is supportive as long as I'm handling my business on the court, and she's gonna ride behind me one hundred and ten percent, and she do any of her players," Flau'jae said.
"It was a small ask. I told her, 'I have you ten minutes, you in and out.' She did her thing and we got it done. You know Coach Mulkey is a real superstar so I ain't know if know she was gonna put on the outfit and everything, but she really turned it up for me."
After a quick preview of the locker room scene with Mulkey, the video switches to Johnson rapping her part and then Weezy jumps in.
Flau'jae Johnson shares how she got Lil Wayne to collab with her
Flau'jae Johnson, who has been rapping since her childhood, leveled up her music career this year by collaborating with big names like NLE Choppa and Lil Wayne.
On her debut EP, "Best of Both Worlds," released in June, Johnson featured Wayne on the track 'Came Out A Beast.' She opened up about the collab, with Paul Finebaum at SEC Media Day.
"I actually got the Lil Wayne feature because of basketball, which was crazy," Flau'jae said. "After we won the national championship game, Sue Bird was like, 'Lil Wayne, are you gonna do a song with Flau'jae?' And he was like, 'yeah.'
"And then coach Coach Mulkey, she was talking — Coach Mulkey knows everybody — so it just kind of happened. And the song happened, the video happened. Coach Mulkey was in the video, So that was great. It was amazing. The whole situation was a blessing."
'Came Out A Beast' has a total of 1.5 million streams on Spotify, and the video on Youtube for the song has 2.4 million views.
Besides Wayne, Flau'jae Johnson also brought in NLE Choppa for another track 'AMF' and 2Rare for 'Karma.'
