Flau'jae Johnson and her mom, Kia Brooks, understand the importance of women's basketball players getting paid for their time dedicated to hard work, and a recent announcement regarding pay has brought excitement for Brooks. On Friday, the NCAA announced that women's basketball players will be financially compensated for their participation in the NCAA Tournament starting this year.
A combined $15 million will be awarded to all the teams who qualify, making up 26% of the women's basketball media revenue deal.
"This is a historic day for women's sports, women's basketball and the NCAA," NCAA President Charlie Baker said in a statement. "We have made investing in women's sports a priority, and today's vote means our members have the opportunity to do even more on campus to promote and support female athletes. I can't wait to see all the incredible things they do."
Brooks reacted to the news with a story post on Instagram, only needing four words to explain her thoughts on women's basketball players finally getting the fruits of their benefit.
"They all deserve it!!" Brooks said.
