Flau'Jae Johnson's LSU teammate Last-Tear Poa was seemingly feeling spiritual on Thursday and Johnson's mom Kia Brooks showed her affirmation. Poa posted a quote from the Bible on Instagram, which read:
"Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverb 3:5-6."
Fans took to the comment section to share their own words of encouragement. Brooks was one of them, writing:
"Amen 🙏🏾❤️."
Last-Tear Poa has participated in eight games this season and started twice. She's averaging 2.4 points and 2.4 assists in 12.6 minutes per game.
Last-Tear Poa returns to LSU action after lawsuit against USCIS
Last-Tear Poa came off a lawsuit against U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to make a stellar performance in No. 7 LSU Tigers' 74-60 win over Murray State in a game on Nov. 15. She appeared off the bench to a standing ovation and tallied two assists and a turnover in seven minutes.
Poa was also involved in LSU's 131-44 win against North Carolina Central on Dec. 1. She had a season-high 12 points, three assists and two rebounds in 13 minutes to help the Tigers improve to 9-0 and make head coach Kim Mulkey the fastest basketball coach - men's or women's - in LSU history to reach 100 wins.
Before both wins, Poa was not part of the LSU team in their preseason games against Xavier and LSU-Alexandria as well as the season opener against Eastern Kentucky. Her absence from the team was linked to her lawsuit against USCIS after her P-1A Athlete visa application was denied.
The Australian was granted legal residency in the United States on an F-1 student visa in 2021. However, her visa made it difficult for her to land Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals due to non-work-study employment rules. However, Poa's visa was meant for internationally recognized athletes in which applicants must demonstrate that they entered the US to compete at a major level.
So, the LSU senior believed that she qualified due to being LSU's most experienced point guard, having averaged 4.9 ppg last season. Although she is known for her attacking strength, Poa's biggest impact is on the defensive end of the floor where she dominated.
However, team officials confirmed that her absence was unrelated to the lawsuit, per The Daily Advertiser. Mulkey also confirmed that Poa was still a part of the team but she had to "take care of some business off the floor" at the time.
