No. 5 LSU women's basketball suffered its first defeat of the 2024-25 season in the 66-56 loss against No. 2 South Carolina on Friday. Flau'jae Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, was at the game and watched fans throw an "emotional jab" at her daughter.

After the game, Brooks shared a post from X (formerly Twitter) on her Instagram page to express her disappointment at Gamecocks fans playing Johnson's deceased father Camoflauge's song:

"Last time we played them in their house we lost by 22 points. So we kept the defending champs to a minimum of what they could really do at home. Despite not playing our best, we still kept it close even in a very hostile environment with an even surprising emotional jab.
"By playing my daughter’s deceased father's song as a tool, and that couldn’t even faze us. We from the Cport so we prepared for just about any and everything. Lol!"

Brooks also praised the Tigers for silencing their critics who doubted their schedule's "toughness." For the mother, LSU played against the best of the best and she was looking forward to March.

Flau'jae Johnson featured in the game and finished with 13 points, four rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes of play.

The Gamecocks (19-1, 7-0 Southeastern Conference) held the Tigers (20-1, 5-1) to just eight points in the second quarter, their lowest-scoring quarter of the season. But it was in the third quarter that South Carolina truly shined, going on an 8-0 run, and entered the final quarter with a 10-point lead.

Although LSU cut the deficit to single digits, the Tigers could not complete a comeback and were subsequently condemned to their 17th straight loss to the Gamecocks.

Meanwhile, LSU coach Kim Mulkey praised her team for putting up a competitive game despite the loss.

"I learned we can hang with the best in the country," Mulkey said after the game. "And I do think they're the best in the country, even though UCLA beat them. I don't think I've ever coached against a team with 10 McDonald's All-Americans on a roster."

Up next, LSU will host Texas A&M on Sunday, Jan. 26.
