Dawn Staley was hyped for Beyoncé's halftime performance during the Christmas Day clash between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.
The South Carolina coach tweeted a photo of herself watching the show and flexed the Gamecocks' undefeated season on their way to the national championship last year.
"Just call @Beyonce the internet because she’s undefeated….oh like us @GamecockWBB last season 🤭🤭🤭….slight flex! Go head Bey!!" coach Staley tweeted.
Fans reacted to Staley’s witty comparison in the comments, with one fan writing:
"Period Coach!!! Let these h**s know every time you can!!! Flex on these h**s!! Bey said from one icon to another I see you! These h**s could never! 😭👏🏾👏🏾."
"Flex away Dawn!" another commented.
"Major flex Coach 💪 Merry Christmas!" one wrote.
"You ate coach," a fan commented.
Meanwhile, some fans made a recruiting pitch to Staley, pointing out Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, as a potential center for the South Carolina team.
"You think Blue likes garnet. She’s tall. I may be recruiting 😂," one fan joked.
"Blue ivy tall asl, she might be your cardoso replacement👀," another commented.
Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks' connection with Beyonce
South Carolina defeated the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in April to lift its third NCAA championship. With this win, Dawn Staley became the first Black coach to win three titles in NCAA history.
After the extraordinary win, Beyoncé sent a personal note of congratulations to the Gamecocks and Staley.
The coach read the note in a video posted on her X account:
"To Coach Staley and the entire South Carolina Gamecocks, me and my family watched your games and cheered you on through the entire season,” Beyoncé wrote. “I am so proud of you, all of my love.”
Dawn Staley, wearing Beyoncé's "Always Been Country" merchandise, thanked the artist for her support.
“Bee, thank you! We appreciate you,” coach Staley said. “We’re honored to wear your gear. It says, ‘Always Been Country.’ Well, guess what, I’ve been in the South for 16 years. I’m a little country too! This is because of you, Bee. Keep inspiring. We love you.”
Dawn Staley and South Carolina are aiming to win the NCAA title once again this season, which would mark their first back-to-back championships.
Although the Gamecocks have struggled with inconsistent performances from their players, they are now 11-1 and will return to action on Sunday against Wofford.
