Former Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark has repeated as Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year. Clark led the Hawkeyes to a berth in the national championship last season, but they lost to South Carolina.
Clark becomes the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back years.
Following the announcement, Iowa Hawkeyes player Jada Gyamfi reacted to the news, and she wasn't surprised that Clark won the Big Ten Female Player of the Year.
Last season with Iowa, Clark averaged 31.6 points, 8.9 assists and 7.4 rebounds to help the Hawkeyes get to the national championship game.
Caitlin Clark was drafted first overall in WNBA Draft
Following Caitlin Clark's dominant 2023 season, she was drafted first overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Clark is averaging 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists in her rookie season and is a popular selection in the fan vote for the All-Star game. Along with Clark, former LSU star Angel Reese, who is now with the Chicago Sky, is getting plenty of votes. Clark says she would be open to playing on the same team as her.
"A lot of hypotheticals," Clark said, via CBS "I think both of us would probably tell you our focus is on playing basketball, and if that works out for the both of us, great, that would be a lot of fun -- we've never played together. I guess I don't really know what all goes into how they select the All-Star team -- I'm new to the league. I know fan vote is part of it, but there's also other criteria, it's not just fan vote. She's had a tremendous season, and if that was to happen, I'm sure people would love it."
Clark and Reese were rivals in college and are now in the WNBA, but Clark prepared to look past that to play with her in the All-Star game.
