UConn's Paige Bueckers had a rare off night against Louisville on Saturday, scoring just eight points. The 6-foot guard struggled with her shooting, going 2-for-11 from the field in the No. 2 Huskies' 85-52 victory over the No. 22 Cardinals, well below her season average of 18.9 points per game.
Despite the poor performance, some college basketball fans rallied behind the superstar guard, believing she will bounce back stronger. Bueckers’ shooting woes were a major topic on X following the matchup.
Here are a few reactions on the platform:
"the paige bueckers fraud allegations are incoming… need her to shut them up quickly next time," one fan wrote.
"paige frustrated as hell omg," another one said, adding a broken heart and a crying face emoji.
"Well anyways I just know Paige will not let herself have this type of game on Thursday. In Paige Bueckers I trust Always," one user tweeted.
"i need you all to stop disrespecting paige bueckers cause she had a bad game, its getting boooring," a fan added.
Here are some more reactions.
"She didn’t have a great game tonight, but Bueckers has valuable experience and impacts the team in a lot of ways," one tweet read.
"in all seriousness paige is gonna be fine ... she’s definitely finding other ways to impact the game (10 rebs, 6 ast) but she still needs to get her s**t together," another fan showed support.
"She will be back to her old self again but I can't imagine the pressure right now, let alone every other day," one user added.
Did Paige Bueckers really have a 'bad game'?
While her scoring stats may have been underwhelming against Louisville, Paige Bueckers still contributed in other aspects of the game. She finished the contest with her season-high 10 rebounds and six assists to go along with eight points.
The night at Barclays Center in New York was a historic moment for Bueckers as she debuted her Nike GT Hustle 3 PE shoes, becoming the first student-athlete to have her own customized Nike sneakers.
However, the Edina, Minnesota, native had one of the worst shooting performances of her college career with just 18.2% from the field and 16.7% from the 3-point line.
The last time she scored in single digits was in November of last year when she recorded eight points on 3-of-9 shooting in UConn's victory over Dayton. The Huskies play No. 10 Notre Dame on Thursday, and fans will have their eyes on Bueckers to find her shooting groove again.
