UConn coach Geno Auriemma, joined by sophomore Kamorea Arnold and senior Paige Bueckers for the postgame press conference on Wednesday, shared his thoughts after the Huskies beat St. John's 71-45 in a Big East matchup in Queens.

Auriemma had a bit of fun at Arnold's expense, ribbing her for her responses to questions from reporters. After Arnold and Bueckers had answered some questions and left the podium, the Hall of Fame coach took his chance to poke fun at his young star.

"Anybody understood anything KK said? Raise your hand, 'cause I didn't," Geno Auriemma joked (3:37), drawing laughter from the room.

KK Arnold had previously given a lengthy and thoughtful response to the question posed to her. True to her fast pace on the court, she spoke just as quickly during the press conference. A reporter asked the 5-foot-9 guard about how UConn's defense had forced St. John's into 15 turnovers on the night.

Here was Arnold's full response:

"Understanding that's part of our identity as a team and just defensive intensity. That intensity brings energy, but also communication was key for our team tonight," she said (1:28).
"I feel like we communicated very well, and our pressure — everybody was talking on the court, which made easy rotations and things like that to make it easier for us to get turnovers."

Geno Auriemma's playful response to KK Arnold joining the podium

Kamorea "KK" Arnold arrived as a surprise at the podium, triggering coach Geno Auriemma's playful response. After the Huskies' win at St. John's, Auriemma and Paige Bueckers were the first on the stage for the postgame interview while one seat was still vacant.

As Arnold walked in to join them, Auriemma looked at the guard and said, "You?"

"Jesus! That's all you gotta do to get up on the podium?," he added.

Usually, the players who have the most impact or ones who make critical plays get chosen to speak at the postgame media availability.

Based on the final box score, Azzi Fudd led UConn in scoring with 13 points, so Auriemma may have been expecting her instead of KK Arnold, who had six points, two rebounds and four assists coming off the bench.

Instead, Arnold followed Bueckers and Auriemma to the podium. The coach's response was a lighthearted jab that didn't seem to bother the sophomore, who simply smiled in response.
