Former NBA star Gilbert Arena's ex-wife, Laura Govan cheered on her daughter, Louisville freshman Izela Arenas, despite the Cardinals' 85-52 defeat to UConn in the Women's Champions Classic at Barclays Center on Saturday. Govan was at the game and captured several moments where her daughter stood out.
In one of those moments, Arenas scored a 3-pointer for Louisville which Govan shared on her Instagram story with the caption:
"Shooters stay ready!!!"
This was Arenas' only three points in the game. She went 1-of-6 from the field (1-of-4 on 3-pointers) and also had one assist in 14 minutes in No. 22 Louisville's defeat to No. 2 UConn.
Laura Govan shares excitement watching daughter Izela Arenas hustle for ball vs UConn's Paige Bueckers
Laura Govan shared her excitement at her daughter Izela Arenas' defensive style against UConn during the Women's Champion Classic. The proud mom shared a video which showed Arenas hustle for the ball against UConn star, Paige Bueckers on her Instagram story. She captioned the post:
"Watch my babies D fence."
Govan, who shares four children with ex-husband Gilbert Arenas, has often showcased her daughter's skills on the court.
Arenas made her debut in Louisville’s basketball game against Southern Indiana on Friday, Nov. 8. She played 23 minutes, scoring seven points, securing three rebounds, and delivering one assist, to help Louisville secure a dominant 75-51 win.
Prior to her debut, Arenas was a four-star prospect, ranking 88th in the top 100, according to ESPN. The young guard chose to play her collegiate career at Louisville after turning down offers from the Oregon Ducks, Arizona Wildcats and the Iowa State Cyclones.
However, Arenas' debut for Louisville was far from smooth as she saw little game time during the Cardinals' 66-59 defeat to the UCLA Bruins. She played for only 10 minutes and scored a 3-pointer.
Arenas is currently averaging 4.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists off the Cardinals' bench.
Next, the Cardinals take on Grambling State Tigers on Friday, Dec. 13.
