“Grateful to have witnessed her greatness”: College hoops fans congratulate LSU’s Mikaylah Williams for highest high school honor

No. 5 LSU demolished Grambling State 100-54 at Brookshire Grocery Arena in Bossier City on Sunday. But that was not all that happened. It was a homecoming for Bossier City native Mikaylah Williams, whose No. 12 jersey was retired by Parkway High School in a pregame ceremony.

Parkway officials presented Williams with a framed jersey during the announcement.

"I put in a lot of work, a lot of hours, a lot of blood, sweat and tears to be in this moment to have my jersey retired," Williams said. "I'm also grateful for my family, my coaches, my friends and most of all God. So I'm just grateful that he put me in this position to even have my jersey retired."

Following the game, LSU announced Williams' achievement on Instagram, and fans shared their excitement.

"Parkway High School will retire Mikaylah Williams’ No. 12 jersey 🤩," they captioned the post.
"Well deserved. Grateful to have witnessed her greatness at Parkway ❤️🖤🔒🤞🏾," a fan commented.
"Don’t ever be so raw; that yo high school jersey get retired!! Come on can we start this Goat conversation!!" another fan commented.
"Legend of bossier , amazing game today," a fan wrote.
"Congratulations Mikaylah💜💛Well deserved!" a fan wrote.

Williams led the Lady Panthers to their first state title in her senior season.

Mikaylah Williams, Flau'jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow power LSU as the Tigers demolish Grambling State 100-54

LSU stars Mikaylah Williams, Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow led the Tigers to defeat Grambling 100-54 to remain unbeaten (11-0). Williams had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Johnson recorded 20 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Morrow secured her 83rd career double-double with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Morrow is now tied for the eighth-most double-doubles in Division I.

LSU dominated early, leading 29-13 after the first quarter and 54-29 at halftime. The Tigers stayed aggressive in the second half, outscoring Grambling State 33-12 in the third quarter. Williams hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 remaining and exited to a standing ovation from her hometown crowd.

Next, LSU hosts Louisiana on Sunday.
