Former NFL coach Bill Belichick was present at the Smith Center when North Carolina lost 72-71 to Stanford on Saturday afternoon. The game was a close call from the first whistle to the end until Cardinal senior Jaylen Blakes downed a 3-pointer to give his team the win.

As Tar Heels fans filled the arena to the brim in blue, they got the chance to witness an iconic moment as Belichick was caught on camera catching up with former UNC coach Roy Williams.

The two coaches are legends in their own sport, as Williams led the Tar Heels to three NCAA championships. Bill Belichick has six Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots and is now set to lead the UNC football team from the 2025 season.

ACC Network posted the video of the two on X, and fans reacted to this in the comments.

"Greatness personified🐐," one fan wrote.
"Legends in the Dome! 🩵🏀🐏," another wrote
"Two of the greatest coaches in sports," one fan commented.

Not all fans were amused by this interaction, as one wrote:

"These guys should be in an retirement community somewhere with Mac Brown."
"Belichick being so phony it’s hilarious.. you know it kills him inside to be acting this fake happy 🥴," another wrote.
"Hopefully they were talking about firing Hubert Davis," a fan joked

Bill Belichick set to make his return to coaching

After 48 years of coaching in the NFL, Bill Belichick said his goodbye in 2023. However, a year later, he chose to return, but this time in college football. During his introductory press conference, he explained the reason behind choosing the NCAA.

"I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill," he said. "I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college, and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill."

Steve Belichick, Bill's father, was associated with Hiram College as the football coach before World War II. Most notably, he also worked as the backfield staff member for North Carolina and Vanderbilt. This could be one reason behind Bill coming to Chapel Hill.

While he is yet to sign a contract with the Tar Heels, UNC general manager Michael Lombardi revealed on the "Pat McAfee Show" that Bill Belichick has already begun recruiting players for the 2025 roster.

"He's in Washington D.C., in spite of all the stories trying to say that he's not working, his contract, and all that," Lombardi said. "He's on the road recruiting. He'll be in Baltimore tomorrow. We're trying to get some players to become Tar Heels."

North Carolina finished the 2024 season with a 6-7 record and was placed 10th in the ACC.
