John Calipari may have inspired a new product line for Tyson Foods. The Northwest Arkansas-based poultry products company announced the release of a new nugget line, ‘Razorback Nuggets,' on Tuesday. The chicken pieces will be shaped like the University of Arkansas' athletics team mascot, 'The Hog.'
In a statement from the school, Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said:
“When Arkansas fans cheer on our teams this season, they will be inspired by their passion for the Hogs and fueled by the new Tyson Razorback Nuggets.
"With these two iconic Arkansas brands teaming up, the Razorback Nation will be primed and ready to ‘Call the Hogs’ from pre-game to post-game while showing their loyal support of our more than 460 Razorback student-athletes.”
Fans in the comments joked about the new product, with one person calling it:
"Guaranteed choking hazard"
"The slogan for this product should be “Woo Pig Yummy!,” one fan joked.
"Yeah because Arkansas is gonna get cooked all season," another commented.
One fan thought that this product was a great idea, as they wrote:
"This is a guaranteed successful product."
"Release it in Kentucky 😂," another joked.
"For the right amount of money, we’ll consider changing the mascot from a razorback to a chicken," one user commented
"Sorry Dino nuggets you have been replaced," another joked
Former Tyson Foods CEO played a crucial role in John Calipari's arrival in Arkansas
John Tyson, former CEO of Tyson Foods, has been John Calipari's friend for more than 20 years. During his most successful season with the Memphis Tigers, Tyson requested Calipari to coach Arkansas. However, he refused because of his commitment to his students.
However, after multiple disappointing seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats, a change was needed and John Tyson came in clutch.
"The key relationship to help the deal come together was Calipari's long-standing ties to John H. Tyson, a billionaire who is a longtime Arkansas benefactor," ESPN reported in April.
With John Calipari now in Fayetteville, he was asked by The Athletic about his goals and he said:
“I’ve done this a few times in my career and the biggest thing I’m trying to create is the love affair between this program and the campus. This program, Northwest Arkansas, this whole state, you’re trying to create a love affair. That means the kind of kids we’re recruiting, great kids that want to be involved in the community."
"That means as the coach, don’t cheat the position and stay inside and just watch tape. Be involved in charities, be involved in helping throughout the campus, the state."
With him putting together a talented roster, fans are curious to see how things will pan out for the Naismith Hall of Fame coach in his new home.
