Iowa women's new basketball coach Jan Jensen led a contingent of Iowa fans to Indiana for the Aces-Fever matchup on Wednesday. They were in the house at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to support former Iowa players Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin as they faced off in the WNBA.
Jensen shared a series of pictures on her Instagram story from the game. One image showed a selfie with one of her crew members who is none other than former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder.
"Had a lot of fun with this one, too!" Jensen captioned the picture.
Her first photo in her story was the outside view of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse arena as she walked into the building.
"Guess where I am? Go Fever! Go Aces!" the caption read.
Kimballton, Iowa, native Jensen also shared pictures of former Iowa stars Clark and Martin warming up and playing in the game.
The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Fever 86-75 thanks to A'ja Wilson's solid display, as she scored 27 points while also making 12 rebounds. Clark, a contender for WNBA Rookie of the Year, scored 16 points and provided six assists, which was not enough to win the game. Martin, on the other hand, did not get any minutes.
Jan Jensen replaces Lisa Bluder at Iowa
Jan Jensen's career at Iowa started in 2000 when she joined Lisa Bluder's coaching staff.
Four years later, Jensen became the program's associate head coach, a position she held until receiving the coaching role in April this year after Bluder's retirement.
Jensen and Bluder have a longstanding connection dating back to the 1980s. When Jensen was in her senior year at Drake, Bluder assumed the role of the Bulldogs coach.
However, Jensen was not happy with Bluder's hiring at first.
"It's kind of, are you kidding me, right? New coach. I'm a senior," Jensen said. "And then it ended up being really the best thing. She was just tremendous. She was really just a player's coach and intense but knew how to make it fun. Obviously, it benefited me."
After finishing her playing career, Jensen returned to Drake University as an assistant coach, joining Bluder's coaching staff. At Drake, she became Bluder's assistant and took charge of recruiting.
Later, when Bluder became the head coach at the University of Iowa, she brought Jensen with her. Together, they continued to succeed, leading Iowa to win five Big Ten tournaments and two regular-season Big Ten titles.
