After a senior season with the LSU Tigers, Hailey Van Lith used her extra college eligibility year to transfer to TCU. In an interview with Overtime on Sunday, the guard revealed that she just wasn't done with college basketball yet.
Hailey Van Lith faced challenges during the move from Baton Rouge to Fort Worth and explained them.
"The hardest part about moving to a new school for me is that I'm a very Type A person," Van Lith said (01:00). "So routines are huge, consistency is huge. I've had to learn that sometimes I have to be okay without having a routine for a while.
"Am I going to let all the days waste away before then, not being present living in the future of like I can't do anything until this happens until this happens? So it's challenged me a lot mentally."
Hailey Van Lith made her debut with the Horned Frogs last week against Houston Christian and finished with 21 points, five rebounds, seven assists and six steals. In the second tip-off against New Orleans, Van Lith had 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
Hailey Van Lith sees the positives of her time at LSU
After three successful seasons with the Louisville Cardinals, Hailey Van LIth's move to LSU was seen as a way for her to potentially win an NCAA title with the then-defending champions. However, it did not help her career prospects, as she saw a dip in her production.
"I think the last year of my career, I don't think I'm going to reap the fruits of that yet. I think that will come when I'm a pro," Van Lith said during Big 12 Media Day. "That year prepared me for the pros and what it's going to be like at that level."
"From a self-how to regulate yourself, how to make work something that isn't necessarily perfect for you, how to make the best out of any situation. I think that what I learned last year will pay off for me in a couple of years and the world might not see it yet, but I know that it's going to come." [TS - 8:45]
The guard and even her former teammate, Angel Reese, admitted that the LSU roster was not for her and she struggled to find her place. With this final season, Hailey Van Lith will be hoping to increase her career prospects with great performances as she prepares for a transition to the WNBA in 2025.
