Hailey Van Lith was the lone bright spot for the No. 9-ranked TCU Horned Frogs in their 85-52 setback to No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks in the US LBM Coast to Coast Challenge on Sunday night at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The fifth-year LSU transfer finished with 21 points on 7 of 17 shooting (1-5 from 3-pointers) from the field and shot 6 of 6 from the free throw line in 36 minutes of action for TCU (9-1). The Horned Frogs couldn't get their game going against defending champion South Carolina (9-1).
The 5-foot-9 guard also put up two rebounds, six assists and one steal for TCU. Van Lith opened the game with back-to-back assists to Taylor Bigby and Sedona Prince, handing the Mark Campbell-coached team a 5-2 lead.
Van Lith scored her first two points on a layup that tied the game at nine with 4:13 left in the first quarter. She would add a 3-pointer to her first-quarter statistics, as it also reduced South Carolina's deficit to six 20-14 after 10 minutes.
The guard would run up six straight points in the second period to help TCU reduce the deficit to 30-20 at the 6:03 mark of the second period. However, that was the last time the Horned Frogs came closest to the lead, as the Gamecocks went on a 14-3 tear to close the first half at 44-23.
Van Lith failed to score in the third period but had a rebound and three assists for TCU, who weren't able to gain ground and fell further to a 64-32 hole. She would score her last 10 points in the fourth frame on six free throws and two layups but those were garbage points as the result was already decided early.
Here are Hailey Van Lith's stats in TCU's first loss of the season to South Carolina.
