Haley Cavinder led the Miami Hurricanes to a 61-56 win over the Oregon State Beavers on Friday night. She scored 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
Cavinder started the game by being active on the glass, grabbing four rebounds. Even though she missed her first three shots, she eventually got one to go through the hoop with nine seconds left in the first quarter. She also provided an assist.
She would pick up her scoring in the second quarter. She knocked down three of her five shots, increasing her assertiveness on offense as she also created two assists for the Hurricanes. She also made a steal with 1:19 left in the first half.
Once halftime came around, Miami were trailing 31-27. At that point, Cavinder had eight points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
She continued her scoring in the second half while getting more active on the glass again. Not only did she score six points, but she also secured four rebounds as her energy was nonstop despite having played every minute of the game so far.
That third quarter proved to be pivotal for Miami. They outscored Oregon State 16-6 to take a 43-37 lead going into the final period.
Cavinder took an all-around approach to help the Hurricanes maintain control of the lead. She provided six points, three rebounds, and two assists as she made solid plays down the stretch to keep the Beavers at bay.
Her final offensive play came with seven seconds left. She knocked down two free throws that ended up being the last points scored in the game, clinching the victory for Miami.

Haley Cavinder's presence has benefitted Miami's offense this season
Miami has been on cruise control with Haley Cavinder commanding the offense 11 games into the regular season.
Cavinder is averaging around 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists on nearly 49% shooting, including 25% from downtown. Her ability to score, grab rebounds and create assists at a high level has allowed the Hurricanes to have an 11-1 record after 12 games.
