Miami guard Hanna Cavinder produced seven points, five rebounds and seven assists in the Hurricanes' 74-71 victory over Jacksonville on Monday at Watsco Center.
A week after a good season debut against Stetson, Cavinder had a rough shooting night, converting only 2-of-5 shots and missing all three 3-point attempts. Cavinder sank 3-of-4 free throw shots to help the Hurricanes survive the close contest in front of the 1,907 Miami crowd.
The graduate student from Gilbert, Arizona made the first bucket for the Hurricanes and then dished two assists in the first frame. Cavinder finished the first half with three more rebounds, three additional assists and 3-of-4 conversions in the charity stripe.
Cavinder also tallied two points, two rebounds and two assists in the second half before contributing a lay-up to spark a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter. Despite a comeback attempt by the Dolphins, the Hurricanes took the victory with a lay-up from Jasmyne Roberts and two free throw makes from Darrione Rogers.

Natalija Marshall was the star of the night, putting up numbers in all statistical categories. The 6-foot-5 forward produced a game-high 24 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, knocking down 3-of-4 3-pointers and 13-of-14 free throws. She also grabbed six rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks.
Hanna's twin Haley Cavinder was the second-leading scorer among the Hurricane starters, putting up 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting while also earning three rebounds, three assists and a steal on the night.
Darrione Rogers was the spark off the bench, channeling 13 points and 3-of-8 conversions from the rainbow area. Her two made free throws sealed the three-point victory at home for Miami.
Both teams had rough shooting nights, but the Hurricanes made one more 3-pointer and two more free throws to grind out a tight win. The Dolphins grabbed 10 more boards, but the Hurricanes had the advantage on assists (16 to nine) and steals (10 to seven).
Cavinder and Co. face the Florida Gators next on Nov. 16 at O'Connell Center. Miami will then have six straight home games, starting with a clash against FIU on Nov. 19.
