Hannah Hidalgo has stood out this season as one of the best performing players in women's college basketball. Which of course had her talk about the game she is hyped to see once it commences.
Hidalgo was answering questions from fans on Instagram over the weekend, seeing what the basketball community was wondering about her opinions on certain topics.
One question asked her about the upcoming game between No. 7 USC and No. 4 UConn on Dec. 21, which wound up getting a response from the Notre Dame star summed up in seven words.
"Ou I'm hyped for that one tooooo," Hannah Hidalgo said.
Hannah Hidalgo was called a "pest" by Paige Bueckers
As a player performing at a high level, Hannah Hidalgo's efforts were recognized by No. 4 UConn's star player Paige Bueckers prior to their matchup on Dec. 12.
“Notre Dame has a lot of outstanding players, but Hannah is obviously the head of the snake. She does a lot of great things offensively and defensively. She’s a pest. The best thing that she does is her energy and her attitude, and she leads her team with that and her fire," Bueckers said per the Associated Press.
Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma also chimed in with strong acknowledgement of Hidalgo's talent, seeing how her skillset can be trouble for any opponent facing her and the No. 3 Fighting Irish.
"[Hidalgo's] talent is obvious. I think, more importantly, is the way she attacks everything that she does. The way she attacks your defense. The way when she’s on defense, she attacks your offense. I think the way that she leads her team in so many different ways," Auriemma said.
"You put all those three things together, and it’s a really, really difficult matchup for anybody. She does what she does. I don’t know that there’s a lot of strategies that you can use."
Notre Dame is the reason UConn suffered their first loss of the season, seeing the former come out victorious by a 79-68 score. Hidalgo flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.
The Fighting Irish have a 9-2 record as they have a four-game winning streak. Hidalgo is averaging 25.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 steals, and 3.8 assists per game on 48% shooting overall and 43.1% from downtown so far.
Hannah Hidalgo and No. 3 Notre Dame will seek their fifth straight win, hosting Loyola Maryland at the Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana, on Dec. 22 at noon ET.
