Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo has made a huge impact for the Fighting Irish this season, helping lead the team to a 10-2 record. She’s putting up 25.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

On December 25, Hidalgo was streaming on Instagram live when she read a fan's question asking her what she thought about UConn's Azzi Fudd.

"I don’t think about her, what are you talking about?" Hidalgo said with a laugh. "They said 'What do you think?' I don't think ... I don’t just sit and think about players, that’s what it is."

Robin Lundberg, a former sports analyst for Sports Illustrated, reacted to the clip in his recent YouTube video, giving his thoughts on Hidalgo's comments.

"I'm scrolling and I see I guess clips from Hannah Hidalgo from an IG live," Lundberg said (1:03). "I appreciate the energy, I do, because it goes with what I've seen from Hidalgo on the floor. She's a killer on the floor."

One fan commented on the livestream reminding everyone that Fudd did not play in the UConn-Notre Dame game.

"Oh, congratulations!" Hidalgo responded sarcastically. "Nobody asked."

Lundberg added that the latter response was tough and dismissive.

"I think sports can use more of that at times," he added (3:06). "Look, I mean, could she have said, 'Oh, I'm glad to see Azzi back on the floor ... Azzi is a great person'. At the same time, she didn't say anything completely out of pocket."
"And it is that kind of like that Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Mamba Mentality, whatever, killer Instinct that people look for."

Hannah Hidalgo is leaving UConn's Paige Bueckers

behind in scoring

Notre Dame sophomore Hannah Hidalgo was dominant last season as a freshman and she has taken her game to another level this campaign.

The 5-foot-6 guard has been putting up good numbers — second in Division I in scoring at 25.8 points per game. Compare that to Paige Bueckers, who won the Big East POY in 2023-24 but is averaging 20.8 points per game this season.

Hannah Hidalgo has been on a tear, scoring 30 or more points in two games and 20 or more in every game except two so far. She dropped a season-high 33 points on Dec. 22 against Loyola.
