Hannah Hidalgo registered her seventh-straight 20-plus-point game, finishing with 24 points to lead No. 3-ranked Notre Dame to a 76-66 win over No. 17 North Carolina at the Carmichael Arena on Sunday.
Hidalgo shot 8-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-9 from the 3-point area and 3-of-4 from the foul line, to lead the Fighting Irish's offense in dispatching the Tar Heels in a marquee ACC weekend clash.
The 5-foot-6 sophomore guard also had three rebounds, five assists and three steals in 36 minutes for the Fighting Irish, who improved to 12-2 and 3-0 in the ACC. Hidalgo opened the quarter with nine points — on two 3-pointers, one jumper and a free throw — one rebound and two steals.
She added nine more in the second quarter, making two triples, a layup and a free throw to come up with 18 points. The sophomore added a steal and an assist and helped Notre Dame build a 42-28 advantage at the half.
Hidalgo made a free throw for Notre Dame, whose lead was reduced to nine, 61-52, after North Carolina scored 24 in the third quarter. She added an assist to Cassandre Prosper, who knocked down a triple that hiked the advantage to 12, 57-45.
The guard delivered five points, one rebound and two assists in the payoff period to help seal the deal for Notre Dame, which picked up its seventh straight win.

Notre Dame held off North Carolina to remain unbeaten in ACC regular-season play on Sunday. Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles combined for 43 points for the Fighting Irish, who raced to an early 14-point lead and staved off a fiery Tar Heels' late charge to secure the win.
Liatu King finished with only eight points but hauled down 15 rebounds for Notre Dame, who remained in a five-way tie for the ACC lead at 3-0 with Georgia Tech, Florida State, Duke and NC State.
The Fighting Irish shot 48.3% from the field, including a sizzling 61.9% from the 3-point line. The Niele Ivey-coached team held North Carolina to 42.9% from the field.
Maria Gakdeng led North Carolina (13-3, 1-2 in the ACC) with 16 points and nine rebounds while Lexi Donarski added 13 points, four assists and three steals. Alyssa Ustby had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
