USC's JuJu Watkins and Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo feature among a list of sophomores who are making a name for themselves in women's college basketball this year. Besides the duo, several other sophomores are producing impressive performances for some of the top teams in the nation, and they are not going unnoticed.
2024 SEC Freshman of the Year Mikaylah Williams is emerging as one of the key players for LSU, while Audi Crooks is leading the charge at Iowa State. Across the opening 12 games, Williams has powered the Tigers to a perfect start by averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while Crooks has averaged 21.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 2.1 apg to help the Cyclones to a 9-3 record.
Despite not making a start so far this season, MiLaysia Fulwiley is posting impressive numbers for the reigning national champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Across their 11 games, Fulwiley has averaged 10.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 1.5 apg.
Their performances have caught the attention of college basketball fans across the nation, who took to social media to express their opinions. Some of them took to praising Watkins and Hidalgo separately, believing they are the best sophomores this season.
"Hannah for sure," said one fan.
"Juju is the most consistent hasn’t had a single digit game since last year. She’s had one her whole young career," said another.
Another fan added, "Love JuJu but Hannah is the best player in the country right now."
Others took to praising the class altogether, believing they could form a super team of their own:
"That 2027 draft will be one for the books," said one fan.
"OMG… This class is something special! Sophomoressssss??? Sheessh," said another.
Another fan added, "Imagine A Starting 5 With Them. Hannah At The Point, Malaysia And Juju At 2&3 , Makaylah At 4 , And Crooks At 5 ? That’s Some Heat Right There."

The strength of the sophomore class this season was highlighted in AP's Preseason All-American Team, with Watkins, Hidalgo and Texas' Maddie Booker the three sophomores earning spots. Furthermore, Watkins was the only player besides UConn senior Paige Bueckers to earn a unanimous selection on the team.
Watkins, the 2024 National Freshman of the Year, has proven her status as arguably the top sophomore in the class, averaging 24.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 3.7 apg. Hidalgo, meanwhile, averages 25.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 3.8 apg, powering the Fighting Irish to three wins against top-five opposition.
