Iowa coach Jan Jensen is excited about the Hawkeyes' future after highly touted recruit Addie Deal earned a McDonald's All-American selection. Deal, who committed to Iowa in March 2024, has been selected to play in the prestigious April 1 all-star game in Brooklyn, New York.
The 6-foot guard, ranked 18th in the nation in the 2025 class by ESPN, shared the news on her Instagram account.
"I’m lovin’ it 🍔🍟🫶," she wrote as the caption.
It featured a graphic featuring herself in the middle along with the best women’s basketball players to have played in the McDonald’s All-American game, including Caitlin Clark, A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.
Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen reshared Addie Deal's post on her Instagram story.
"So proud & so happy for @addie.deal. McDonald's All American!🙌🏼," Jensen wrote.
The five-star guard, who attends Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, will be a part of the West team roster in the event. She is also the first Iowa signee since Caitlin Clark in 2020 to earn the prestigious honor and only the fourth overall Hawkeye to do so.
Several of the current Iowa players including Lucy Olsen, Kylie Feuerbach, Taylor Stremlow and Teagan Mallegni left a comment on Deal's post congratulating her on the selection.
Addie Deal described Jan Jensen and coaching staff's support as key factor in committing to Iowa
Addie Deal announced her commitment to the University of Iowa back on March 12, 2024. She had attracted a host of major college programs including USC, LSU, UCLA, Stanford and Iowa State but in the end, it was Iowa that won the race for the dynamic guard.
Speaking with HawkeyeReport after the commitment, Deal discussed factors that led to her decision to become a Hawkeye.
"The coaching staff felt like a family. A lot of coaching staffs have been great to me, but I really felt a part of the family from day one with both the coaching staff and players," she said.
Deal also recalled her first campus visit in the fall of 2022 which helped cement her decision.
"They really just took care of me and were so kind and nice," Addie said (via HawkCentral). "That was the first visit I had been on where the girls were actually there. At first I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this is so amazing.'"
Jan Jensen described Deal as a premier national talent with an "extremely high IQ" who will be a great fit within the program's culture.
