“He should go play somewhere that he can be the point guard” – Brian Windhorst pinpoints compelling reason behind Bronny James’ average season at USC

Bronny James played just one season with the USC Trojans before declaring for the 2024 NBA draft. While he has maintained his college eligibility and entered the transfer portal, many fans doubt if he would actually stay in college.

Scout's reports, however, do not paint a great picture of the guard. ESPN insider Brian Windhorst explained the reasons behind this during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

“When I talk to NBA scouts about Bronny, they don’t think he was able to put his best foot forward because USC wasn’t able to play him at his position,” Windhorst said.
“He played sort of on the wing. (Scouts) say he should play point guard which is where he played when he excelled in high school,” Windhorst said. “He should go somewhere where he can play point guard and build up his skills and that may not be USC.”

In his freshman season, Bronny James averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 19.4 minutes of game time in 25 games.

One of the biggest reasons for James' restricted role in his freshman season was the presence of much better point guards, like Isaiah Collier and Boogie Ellis. Additionally, health concerns due to his cardiac arrest in July put a damper on his performance.

While a move to the NBA does not seem like a great option for Bronny James, transferring to a different program and growing his game will definitely help his prospects for next year's draft process.

Brian Windhorst hopes Bronny James makes his intentions clear

Through his freshman season, Bronny did not give a single interview post-game. He did not join his teammates for the press conferences and was not available for the locker room chats.

Most of the information on Bronny James has been through his father, LeBron James, and Brian Windhorst hopes that will change.

"LeBron kinda changed the way he's talked about that during this season. He made it clear that it was his dream. It wasn't necessarily Bronny's dream to play with them. I know Bronny's puts statements on Instagram. ... He has never done any interviews," Windhorst said to Pat McAfee.
"But I would love for us to stop guessing and asking LeBron about what Bronny wants. I would love it if just Bronny would come out and say 'This is what I want.' Whether it is in an interview, just make a video or he comes on your show and says this is what I would like to do. And there's clarity and no barriers."

LeBron has given conflicting statements about his son. It first began with him claiming that Bronny was better than some NBA players and was ready for the league.

However, after mock drafts excluded his son from the 2024 draft, LeBron asked the media and stop to stop pressuring his son and "let the kid be a kid."

In the days before Bronny made his decision for the next season, LeBron's only comment to the press was that he would support his son in whatever decision he takes.

Bronny James' final deadline to make his intentions clear is May 29, ten days after the NBA Combine. The 2024 NBA draft is scheduled for June 26 and 27.
