Kiyan Anthony, son of Denver Nuggets legend Carmelo Anthony, may have inherited his father's incredible basketball skills. However, it seems like he is also mirroring his father in handling crucial game moments.
In his 2023 documentary, "Evolution," the shooting guard was playing with Team Melo in the Nike EYBL and the opponents were heavily outplaying them. Kiyan spoke about taking a cue from his father's book regarding their inability to make a comeback:
"My dad, like, he knows when to stop talking or walk away from it. He gave me that look like, oh yeah, it's one of those days." (Time stamp: 6:43)
Carmelo Anthony is a constant presence at most of his son's games, often seen shouting plays and coaching the team from the sidelines. Melo takes his coaching seriously and does not hold back when the team is slacking. In the same video, he criticized the players, saying:
"Y'all not playing hard, y'all playing soft. Y'all playing like suckers. You think y'all gonna be recruited by coaches playing like this?" (Time stamp: 9:35)
Despite his father's harsh words, Kiyan revealed that he and his team were always grateful to Carmelo for stepping in and giving them honest input to help them improve.
Carmelo Anthony shares his goals for Kiyan's senior year
Kiyan Anthony is an incoming senior at Long Island Lutheran High School in Glen Head, New York. As he prepares for his final year, the guard is also finalizing his college choices. His top six schools include Auburn, Rutgers, USC, Florida State, Ohio State and Syracuse.
With all these important moments lining up, Carmelo Anthony shared his goals for his son. In a late August episode of his "7 PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Melo said:
"I would like to see him win. This team is a pretty good team, one of the best in the country. But I would like to see him, like, experience winning the high school championship. That's just that I would want him to experience that.
"But now, it could be tricky if you're not really locked in because you can be thinking ahead too. You can be thinking college and you can be thinking like, 'Okay it's my senior year, it can go either way.' You can get complacent. So it's like, let's stay sharp, let's stay locked in. Let's do what we got to do."
The guard is expected to announce his final college choice in November before his senior season starts in winter.
