John Calipari highlighted the lack of offensive rebounds, missed opportunities inside the paint and Arkansas' inability to convert free throws as key factors in the 71-63 loss to No. 8 Florida on Saturday. However, the postgame news conference took a turn when the coach was uncertain about the Razorbacks' next game.
Although the 2012 NCAA championship coach quickly figured that the program would play its next game on the road, he acknowledged being confused about the exact date of the matchup against the LSU Tigers on Tuesday.
Unimpressed by John Calipari's confusion, fans on social media held the coach accountable.
"It’s Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday coach. Just like always," a fan wrote.
"You can’t get it right because you’re a s**t coach! All coaches do film on their next opponent!!! You never coached! You always depended on the boosters!!! Plain and simple!!! Since NIL you’re junk because you can’t buy players!!!" another fan commented.
"He is a fraud. He's not a coach. He's a sports agent," another fan wrote.
More fans reacted to Calipari's misunderstanding.
"I just can’t believe he’s fallen this far. Will he be at Arkansas next year?" a fan commented.
"His comments are indicative of a lack of interest. He screams indifference to me," another fan wrote.
"I am but a lowly HS coach with some experience at higher levels and in my program I know every game we play, author a composite schedule of opponents and a start to finish composite of our practices and games," another fan commented.
John Calipari wants Arkansas to play for each other
John Calipari's team is 0-3 in the Southeastern Conference, one of five teams that have yet to win in conference play.
The Hogs (11-5) began the Florida game on a high note, making the first of their five shots. However, the unit slowly fell apart behind 18.8% on 3-point shooting and 30.0% overall.
With that, Calipari wants the players to focus on doing the gritty bits and be good teammates.
"You don't have to play great, you don't even have to play good, just defend, dive on the floor, talk, be a great teammate, chest bump, get everybody going, and you'll bounce out of that," Calipari said (Timestamp: 1:02).
"We haven't learned that yet. I got to do a better job. We got to make some shots, do I got to play some different people? Probably. Maybe that big lineup is the answer for us for a while."
After Tuesday's game against LSU (11-5, 0-3 SEC), Arkansas will stay on the road to play the Missouri Tigers (13-3, 2-1) on Saturday.
