“He’s loving me”: Iowa’s Jada Gyamfi recalls the time she bonded with a goat named after her best friend Gabbie Marshall

Kate Martin joined her former Hawkeyes teammate, Jada Gyamfi, for an interview on her 'Fresh Tawk' podcast. The Las Vegas Aces rookie is on her summer break while Gyamfi is in her offseason preparing for the upcoming season.

The two were discussing their days with the Hawkeyes and swapped stories of their current lives when the conversation turned to goats in Iowa that were named after basketball players. Jada Gyamfi recalled one specific goat, which she picked up and seemed to like her a lot.

"[54:29] I pick him up and he immediately lays his little head, right here, on me and he's loving me," Gyamfi said. "He's giving me little noises. I'm like, oh you're a cute little guy, scratching him under the chin and everything."

After some petting, Gyamfi said that she let it go so it could mingle with others. However, the goat had other plans as it came right back and sat on her. She continued:

"I'm like, 'Oh my gosh! Am I the goat whisperer or what's happening?' "Becky is like, 'That's so weird that he's doing that. They don't really cuddle. He's never done that before.' I'm feeling so special ... and I'm like, 'Oh what's this guy's name?' "And she goes, 'Marshall.'"

"Tears. I was like, 'he knows.' "I was like, 'You don't even know, but your namesake is my best friend and I think you can feel that connection between the two of us, the aura.' "It was so cute," Gyamfi added.

Jada Gyamfi and Kate Martin's summer plans were derailed by the WNBA draft

Kate Martin accompanied Caitlin Clark with Jada Gyamfi and Gabbie Marshall for the WNBA draft in April. At that time, neither Martin, nor the fans, her friends, and the Iowa staff knew that she would be picked by the Las Vegas Aces.

After the draft, Gyamfi, Martin, and Marshall were supposed to go on a road trip and spend time in a cabin, completely offline. However, things did not go as planned, as the guard was drafted by the defending champions and immediately began her training.

After three months in the league, Kate Martin has established herself as a reliable role player on the Aces roster. Meanwhile, Jada Gyamfi is preparing to take on the new college season with a new set of players and coach, Jan Jensen. She was promoted to the role following Lisa Bluder's retirement.
