In a game that came down to the final seconds, SMU Mustangs' Boopie Miller delivered a 54-52 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers on Wednesday night. The star guard sank two clutch 3-pointers in the closing nine seconds, including an off-balance buzzer-beater that sealed the win.

This sent shockwaves through the crows as Virginia fans were left devastated in the end after a tightly contested matchup.

SMU secured a victory with a seven-point lead in the final five minutes. However, their offense went silent for nearly four and a half minutes. The X/Twitter page of ACC Network posted a video where fans were bomb shelled, after Miller's win, with the caption:

"BOOPIE MILLER GAME-WINNER"

The Cavaliers surged ahead with a 12-0 run, flipping a 45-38 deficit into a 50-45 lead with just 31 seconds left. It looked like Virginia would end their losing streak, but Miller had other plans.

With time ticking away, Ishan Sharma converted two crucial free throws to widen Virginia’s lead. Miller responded, with a 3-pointer to pull SMU within one point at 52-51 with nine seconds left.

Virginia’s Taine Miller then missed a free throw on the front end of a one-and-one, giving SMU one last opportunity. After calling a timeout with four seconds remaining, Miller took the inbound pass. He threw a timed 3-pointer that swished through the net as the buzzer sounded.

Virginia’s comeback efforts fell short despite their 12-0 run, and SMU entered halftime with a narrow 27-25 lead. The game featured multiple momentum shifts, with four ties and four lead changes in the first half alone.

This victory marked SMU’s second win over Virginia this season, following a commanding 63-51 triumph in their first-ever ACC meeting in Dallas last month.

Virginia’s fourth consecutive loss added to their struggles this season, with their inability to close out games becoming a recurring issue. For SMU, the win was yet another testament to their strong form, as they have now secured nine victories in their last 11 outings.

Boopie Miller's heroics' season-long impact

Just two weeks earlier, Miller led SMU to a dominant 98-82 win over Longwood, scoring 24 points and dishing out seven assists. He shot an impressive 6-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and went 10-of-12 from the free throw line.

In that game, Miller was complemented by Yohan Traore, who notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Cross and Chuck Harris also made significant contributions, combining for 31 points. The Mustangs demonstrated their offensive firepower by shooting 62% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. The win was SMU’s seventh straight and showcased their depth and ability to perform as a cohesive unit.
