Aaliyah Chavez bids adieu to AAU and prepares for her college transition

On July 22, Chavez played her last circuit basketball game, leading the Cy Fair Elite to a 68-55 victory in the Nike National championship. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Chavez shot 42.7 percent from the field, including 43.2 percent from the 3-point line.

Chavez said goodbye to the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) with a special note on July 28:

"Farewell AAU!! Thank you for all that you have done for me! I gave you everything I had and in return, you created memories and relationships that I never thought would be possible!! Thank you to all the coaches that invested in me. #2 OUT NEXT CHAPTER LOADING………………"

Chavez has revealed her top six schools: LSU, Texas, South Carolina, UCLA, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Many Raiders fans are hoping she will stay in her hometown and lead the team to success, but the guard is more focused on picking a school and coaching staff that best fits her.

“The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy,” Chavez told On3. “I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time [I am].
"I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years. Because that’s what I’m getting recruited off of, right? I want to be there all four years.”

Chavez has taken unofficial visits to LSU and Texas Tech. She will visit the others this summer before making a decision.
